The Reckoner!

Have you ever made a purchase as a result of seeing an ad on Facebook?

So Facebook may be worth a HUNDRED BILLION dollars based on the revenue generated by those little ads along the right side margin.  I seldom pay any attention to these ads yet they must be effictive.  Have they made an impact on you?

Reckoning Comments!

There's been a brouhaha recently because GM announced they were withdrawing a $10MM ad campaign on Facebook because the ads just weren't working.  Ford came out later and said that their ads were working just fine, thank you.

I generally don't notice internet ads, and I go out of my way to avoid any sponsored ads returned in Google searches.  But people do click those ads, and when they do, they're amazingly likely to buy something.  Internet advertising used to suck partly because banner advertisements suck, but largely because nobody used to advertise anything worth buying on the internet.  That isn't true any longer.

I share Papa K.'s skepticism.  I don't think I've ever even been tempted to click on a Facebook ad.  But, as the story of a man who got a job through a Facebook ad would indicate, someone must be looking at them.
