Does seeing someone breastfeed in public make you uncomfortable?

On the one hand, I think women shouldn't be ostracized for filling her child's needs and I don't intellectually have a problem with women breastfeeding wherever they happen to be. It's a natural part of life and so on--and the kid gets hungry when she gets hungry.

On the other hand, I'm not proud of this, but it does embarrass me to see a woman whip her breast out in public. Granted, most women are discreet, but not all women are, and I would prefer not to feel uncomfortable in a restaurant or a park etc. Blame it on a sex-negative society or misogyny etc, but the truth is, that's how I feel. .

I am seven months pregnant with my first, and part of this is that having been the spectator, I want to get a sense of how the general public feels to see if I'm way off base with my prudishness. Most mothers I know tell me that I'm just not going to care when I've got the hungry kid on my hands, and they're probably right, but for now, I'd like to know where most "civilians" fall.

Does seeing someone breastfeed in public make you uncomfortable?

For what it's worth, I'm talking about the out and proud type mothers as opposed to the mothers who do their best to cover up, but it's up to you to what extent you are judging on--from "baring it all is a-ok" to "any hint of breastfeeding makes me blush."

Reckoning Comments!

It's not the breast-feeding in public that bothers me at all, but the mom needs to be respectful of other people's feelings and not make a public event or statement about it. It is NOT a breast-feeding mothers gone wild video!

The either/or vote is ambiguous to me.

It makes me uncomfortable to see a woman pull out the breast in public as it should whether or not there is a child involved, breast-feeding.

There is no reason for that to be an exhibition. A small blanket covering the scene is all it takes. Any woman who whips it out in public is looking for attention.
